JOHANNESBURG – Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has officially launched the hospitality and digital curriculum project at the Tembisa High School in Ekurhuleni.
The project is aimed at improving the teaching and learning of hospitality studies for pupils from grades 10 to 12.
The school is the first in the township to specialise in the sector.
Motshekga says the launch of the programme in Tembisa will give pupils an opportunity to compete in the global world.
“It gives us the necessary skills that we require both as the country and the industry.”
She says her department is paying special attention to improving skills development programmes in schools.
“Emphasis is on entrepreneurial skills, job creation but also targeting industries where we think there’s growth.”
The minister adds that specialised schools such as this one will contribute to efforts that address youth unemployment in the country.
